about

Joanna De Vos is a Belgium-based art historian and independent curator known for her immersive and thought-provoking exhibitions. She studied Art History at the University of Ghent, focusing on the portrayal of the male nude by women photographers. With a curatorial practice that bridges contemporary and historical art, she explores themes of human essence, intimacy, and transformation.

She has curated numerous large-scale exhibitions in Belgium and internationally, including most recently The Clown Spirit – The Traveling Exhibition, an evolving project featuring over 95 international artists, and The Circus We Are (Namur, 2022), a multi-venue exhibition exploring the intersection of art and circus. In 2023, she co-curated Nasi per l’arte (Rome), which brought together over 50 works connecting Belgian and Italian artists around the unexpected theme of the nose. Her international projects also include collaborations with artists such as Jan Fabre, for whom she curated The Man Who Measures the Clouds at the 58th Venice Biennale (2019).

Guided by the ethos ‘curious and keen’ Joanna De Vos continuously seeks out artists who challenge perceptions and create profound dialogues. She fosters both new discoveries and lasting relationships, believing that art—like life—is an ever-evolving journey of wonder, intensity, and connection.
